Exeter University Karate Club

One of the most popular and well-known martial arts, karate is a system of self-defence originating from Japan combining kihon (basics), kata (forms) and kumite (sparring).

Our sessions are led by the highest ranked KUGB Dan grade in the South West, Sensei Trevor Jarett (6th Dan). With his guidance and instruction, members can advance through the ranks with termly gradings and train towards national competitions, in which the club has already enjoyed much success.
Karate classes at the University have plenty to offer for complete beginners, as well as experienced students.

Competitions

Taking part in competitions can be a big part of your Exeter karate life. You will find all the support and training you need to prepare you to take part. The club competes in local competitions and student competitions around the country such as the British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) Championships and the KUGB Student Championships.

Our student sessions will focus largely on preparing you for competitions and are led by our Student Coaches and BUCS medalists. Exeter University Karate Club prides itself on its competition standard having won a total of twenty-three medals in the past academic year across three competition, including four Bronzes and a Silver at BUCS.
