James Thornham 

​​Club Captain
Alice is a third year History student and was last years treasurer. She currently holds a 1st Dan in Wado Ryu style of karate, which she started learning eleven years ago. She has really enjoyed the increased training that the Exeter University Karate Club offers, allowing her to improve her self defence and competition skill as well as learning new katas from different styles of karate. Alice has competed in kumite (fighting) frequently over the last two years in the club and has medalled at multiple competitions, including the KUGB Student Nationals and South Wests.

Vice Captain
James is a fourth year Physics student and was social secretary for the club for the past two years. Although he previously had some experience in karate from a younger age, James restarted at university. James has competed for the university and last year succeeded in medalling twice at BUCS, for his individual kumite, and as part of the male team kumite.

Angus Li 

​​Student Coach
Angus is a third year Psychology student and was our competitions captain last year. Angus has been training in karate for twenty years and has had his black belt for a decade. Angus has experience coaching, having taught some sessions last year. He has also competed for the university over his two years in the club, including being a member of the team kata team which has medalled twice at BUCS.

Angus and Alex will teach the student led sessions between them, with the focus being a mix of competition preparation (kata and kumite) as well as self defence and bunkai (kata application)

Alex Babalitis

Alex is a second year Computer Science student and currently holds his 1st Dan Shotokan. He has been training for 15 years and has competed internationally for Greece in both kata and kumite. Like Angus, Alex has some experience in teaching, having coached some sessions last year, also having a successful BUCS last year.

Angus and Alex will teach the student led sessions between them, with the focus being a mix of competition preparation (kata and kumite) as well as self defence and bunkai (Kata application).

Treasurer
Emma is a second year Exercise and Sports Science student and this years treasurer. Emma only started karate when she joined university as a fresher and really enjoyed it, quickly becoming one of the more enthusiastic members of the club and grading quickly. Emma was also successful in competition last year, medalling in the novice category for kata at BUCS - only 6 months after starting the sport!

Social Secretary
Michael is a second year Business Management student. He has his 2nd Dan in Shotokan karate and has been training for fourteen years. Like many others on the committee, he has competed with the club and medalled on several occasions. He is an active member of the club, but also of the social scene and is looking forward to organising socials for the coming year.

Cameron Prince

Welfare Officer
Zoja is a 3rd year History student and has been doing karate for eleven years.  Zoja did not join the club in her first year, wishing to take a break from the sport but joined in her second year and really enjoyed it. She is a competing member of committee, successfully forming part of the all-Exeter podium for female individual kumite (fighting) at her first competition. She is looking forward to the coming year, and as one of the two welfare secs is here to help you settle into the club and university in general.

Cameron is a second year Physics student. He started karate thirteen years ago but took a break from training before coming to Exeter. As well as allowing Cameron to start up training again, the club really helped him settle in and find his feet at university. He looks forward to doing what he can to make others experiences of the club as positive as his was to help them settle into uni.

Madi Silver

Madi is a second year Philosophy student and this years publicity sec. She has been training for fourteen years and has trained under some of the best instructors in the country. Madi competed last year and looks forward to continuing to train this year. ​
